Ming Tsai Season 7 of SIMPLY MING focuses not only on simple, East-West food that can easily be prepared at home, but also on healthy living and charitable endeavors. The first episode features Iris Tsai, Ming’s mother and the chef’s source of inspiration, preparing tasty dishes using Parsley and Wonton Wrappers. Numerous all-star guests who are on a mission to merge the East and West onto one plate appear in the kitchen, such as: Susur Lee, chef/owner of Lee and Madeline’s in Toronto, Shang in New York, and Zentan at the Donovan House hotel in Washington, D.C.; Art Smith, celebrity chef, award-winning author and humanitarian; and Annie Copps, senior food editor, Yankee magazine.

Ming also invites leaders of national and local nonprofits into his kitchen to prepare delicious dishes and to get the word out about their causes. One of these leaders includes Joshua Viertel, president of Slow Food USA, an organization aiming to create a world in which people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who produce it, and good for the planet. (Anolon is a proud corporate sponsor of Slow Food USA.) Other special guests cooking with Ming are Melina Shannon-DiPietro, executive director of the Yale Sustainable Food Project, an ambitious program aiming to change the way our country engages with food and agriculture; and Billy Starr, founder and executive director of the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, an annual bike-a-thon that is a pioneer of the athletic fundraising industry and today raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country.

Ming is the host and executive producer of SIMPLY MING, which this past year, received two Emmy nominations for “Outstanding Culinary Program” and “Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host.” Ming began cooking for television audiences on the Food Network, where he was the 1998 Emmy Award-Winning host of East Meets West with Ming Tsai. Ming’s Quest, his popular cooking adventures series, also aired on Food Network. In the summer of 2008, Ming traveled to the Beijing Olympics with NBC’s Today show to provide viewers with insight into food customs and traditions that define his Chinese heritage. In addition to television, Ming is the author of three cookbooks: Blue Ginger: East Meets West Cooking with Ming Tsai, Simply Ming, and Ming’s Master Recipes.

Ming’s acclaimed restaurant Blue Ginger in Wellesley, MA was nominated by the James Beard Foundation as “Best New Restaurant 1998,” and Ming was honored as “Chef of the Year 1998” by Esquire Magazine. In 2007, Blue Ginger received the Ivy Award from Restaurants & Institutions, for its consistent achievement in meeting the highest standards for food, hospitality and service, and in 2009, Ming and Blue Ginger won IFMA’s Silver Plate Award in the Independent Restaurant Category, recognizing overall excellence in the industry.
